ANZAC Day – 25 April. For those of you across the vast spans of water, ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War, and is a national day of remembrance where Australians pay their respects to those who died in the war. Most of us will be familiar with the Anzac biscuit. A deliciously sweet (and moreish) biscuit made using rolled oats, flour, dessicated coconut, sugar, butter, golden sy and... Read the Rest →
Hello World! It’s been so long! Yes, I know, I’ve been bad. I’ve been neglecting this baby of mine L I am sorry. For some reason in the past, every time I’ve come to write something for it, I’ve struggled to put pen to paper (or should I say fingers to keyboard?). It’s like writers block, only this block is so massive, I feel like I’m trying to dig a hole through Mt. Everest with a plastic spoon. I’ve been thinking long and hard about this blog, only to realise... Read the Rest →
No matter how big or small the cake is, or the size of the order, I always wait with great anticipation (and anxiety) to hear back from clients after the event. All the time and effort becomes 'worth it' when you hear how delighted a client is with what you've made them. It becomes doubly better when you're sent photos of the cake during the event! One of our Brides from 2012 sent these beautiful pictures to me, so I thought I'd share them with you. Thank you Anita... Read the Rest →
Christmas is my favourite time of year. For me, the best part about Christmas is the chances it brings us. It’s a chance to pass on a little cheer to those around us and show that we care. It’s a chance to give to those less fortunate. It’s a chance to make someone smile, a chance to let people know you’re thinking of them. It’s a chance to say ‘I love you’ and ‘thank you’. But best of all, it’s a chance to celebrate with the people you hold dearest.... Read the Rest →
It was a good friend Macca's birthday no long ago and his idea for his cake is the most unusual (and unique!) we've had to date. Macca's a big fan of beer. Constantly on the prowl for the latest and greatest, you're sure to see his daily posts on twitter. So when Macca asked for a beer cake, I was happy to make him one but a bit sceptical on the idea. Beer cake? Seriously? How am I supposed to make cake taste like beer?! Luckily enough, the specs of... Read the Rest →

I can't believe it has been a year since my sister and brother-in-law got married. Someone must have stolen some days out of the calendar, because seriously, it feels like the wedding was just yesterday. Their reception was the perfect blend of class, elegance and geek with the latter mainly coming in the form of a cake! Check it out… So being the cake fanatic that I am, what else would I do but recreate the top tier for them one year on? It goes with tradition and at least this... Read the Rest →
The best thing about making cakes is that you get to create the most beautiful pieces of edible art. The worst? Apart from having a complete disaster in the kitchen and the stressful delivery process, it’s seeing the masterpiece coming to an end under the blade of a knife. This is particularly the case when it has taken hours to create. Thankfully I’m not usually around when the cake cutting happens, otherwise I might crash tackle the cake cutter in a vain attempt to save it. If I had to... Read the Rest →
It’s always fun when we receive a cake request that we’ve never done before. This is because there’s always a story behind each of them and being able to translate it into cake form is simply awesome. My work colleague Naomi, requested a seriously luxurious cake for her Aunt Magaret’s 60th Birthday. When I say luxury, I’m not just talking about the melt-in-your-mouth strawberry mud cake teamed with white chocolate gananche. Think of fine dining, entertainment, relaxation and recreation all in the one spot. Combine all of this and we're... Read the Rest →
If you've seen our latest blog, you may have seen this baby make a sneaky feature on I Want Cake's 1st birthday dessert table. We've been meaning to show you an addition to our Signatures range. Today’s Chai-mingly good cake is based on my favourite pick me up beverage the Chai Latte. I never iss the chance I get to have one of these. The aromatic spices with a touch of sweetness is so comforting (and tasty too!). We’ve spared nothing to create this flavour and have taken no chai... Read the Rest →
